It is almost always a blast to go outside and toss around your dog’s favorite toy; however, below freezing weather can make it impossible to have the fun you want, or at least not for long. There are many factors that may keep you and your pooch inside for the day. Nasty weather such as rain, sleet, snow, extreme heat, or even high winds can keep a trip to the dog park at bay. Here are some activities you and your dog can do together in order to pass the time indoors.

Grooming. A nice session of grooming can be a great way to bond with your dog, get some training in, and pass the time indoors. Spend time taking extra care of your dog’s grooming needs. Clip their nails, clean their ears, and brush their coats. Brush their teeth and do a full work over to make sure you have touched base with all grooming needs. If you want, you can even use dog-friendly nail polish to paint your pooch’s nails!

Treadmill. A treadmill is a great tool for when your pup is in need of exercise, but you can’t go outside. Getting your dog use to the treadmill may prove difficult at first, but with coaxing and treats, you will soon have your dog running in no time. Remember, you can use a leash if it helps, but NEVER tie your dog to a treadmill. If he/she slips, it could become fatal for your four-legged friend

Chew toys. Dogs love chew toys, and if you add a treat or food into the mix, it can equal hours of fun. Some chew toys come with treats inside, and some are built so that you may insert treats or kibble. There is even a nifty puzzle ball that can keep your dog entertained for hours on end. Just stick the treat in the ball and watch your dog roll and push the ball around until the treat falls out.

Laser Pointer. Not only is a laser pointer fun for your dog, it can be fun for you too. One can purchase a laser pointer online or even at a local drugstore. Shine the light back and forth across the floor and watch as your fluffy friend chases it all over. Don’t shine the light directly into your dog’s eyes, and be sure not to run your dog into any walls or obstacles that might harm them.

Indoor Fetch. This one can be kind of up in the air… get it… get it? Uh… hummm… Anyway, some people are not fond of the idea of their dog running through their house, especially if their dog is large, or if that person has hardwood floors. On the other hand, many people don’t mind throwing a ball down a long hallway for their furry friend. If you don’t mind your dog romping through the house like a maniac, then indoor fetch is just for you!
